In your final year at Uni, all engineering students are required to undertake a thesis as part of the course. The choice was simple for me, in that it had to be in noise and vibration, as this was the subject where the lecturer used to jump around enthusiastically explaining the theories behind it all and I figured wow, this acoustic stuff must be really exciting… hmm. This decision was made very lightly at the time and it’s funny how it was actually a pivotal point. After completing my mechanical engineering degree with 1st class honours from the University of Western Australia in 1996, I then applied for several jobs. Luckily enough, the job I accepted was with an acoustic consulting firm in WA, where I stayed for seven years. By this point my wife and I were expecting our first child and a lifestyle choice needed to be made. I spoke with Daniel who told me how great it was to work from home, managing your own time, flexible hours… blah, blah, blah. Little did I know that flexible hours, was another way of saying you can also work at night! So in 2004, I came across to work with Daniel at Lloyd Acoustics and in 2007 became director of Lloyd George Acoustics. Although work keeps me busy, I really enjoy it, so I am lucky to have fallen into this career path. Outside of work it is all about family with my wife and three kids. All three kids play various sports so if you need me, you can probably find me watching netball or coaching basketball or baseball depending on the season.
